Happy New Year from Home City Development, we wish you a very happy and healthy 2020. We continue to work with our community partners to develop properties that provide quality housing, strengthen neighborhoods, and support our residents. Please read on for updates on our many development projects both active and in the pipeline.

Major renovations to the Chestnut Crossing Apartments are well underway and due to be completed in early Spring 2020. Upon completion the building will have 101 larger single-occupancy units, all units will be energy efficient and include bathrooms and kitchenettes. Thank you to our partners Allegrone Construction, Davis Square Architects, and Locklin Construction (owner’s rep). Stay tuned for a ribbon cutting celebration in Spring 2020.

Elias Brookings Apartments Home City has received four funding awards from the Mass Historic Commission for historic tax credits totaling $800k.
DHCD has invited Home City to apply for major funding and the application is due in February. Awards will be announced in July of 2020.
Construction plans with Davis Square Architects are 50% complete. In the meantime, continuing efforts to reuse and recycle equipment and supplies that remained in the building after the tornado in June 2011 are underway.

We have completed the acquisition of two parcels of land in the rural town of Pelham in order to build Amethyst Brook Apartments.The final development site will include 34 affordable rental units. Construction plans include a new three-story building with 28 units, and a renovated house with six units.
We will be collaborating with Pelham community leaders in 2020 to pursue a chapter 40b comprehensive permit. We will be applying for major funding in the Spring of 2021. This will be a significant development for the town as it currently has no housing that meets the state’s definition of affordable housing.

E Henry Twiggs Estates Solar Project 19 homes have been selected for the E Henry Twiggs solar project. Solar panels will be installed on selected roofs. Over the next 30 years 7,640,291 lbs of CO2 will be removed from the atmosphere as a result of this project. Stay tuned for details.

An application has been submitted to MA Department of Housing and Community Development for funds for upgrades to New South Street Apartments, our 18-apartment property in Northampton. In addition to funds for renovations, Home City requested additional rental vouchers and funds for supportive services for vulnerable populations.

Meet Chris Sugrue, our treasurer. Chris brings 18 years of commercial lending experience as well as commercial real estate transactions to the board. He is currently the vice president of commercial lending at bankESB, previously at TD bank. Chris began his career as a boarding officer with the United States Coast Guard. He has volunteered with numerous local community groups and was the past treasurer of the Holyoke Chamber of Commerce.
