Home City Development, Inc. (HCDI) is a non-profit real estate developer, with a special focus on resident-centered mixed-income housing in Western Massachusetts. We tackle a variety of challenging development projects, including multi-family, mixed-use and home ownership housing; rehabilitation and new construction; inner-city and suburban projects. We build stronger neighborhoods with high-quality, safe, affordable homes.
To restore or replace substandard housing with a supply of decent, affordable, and well-managed housing for individuals and families.
To facilitate neighborhood growth and health in collaboration with partners, leading to long-term family and community stability.
To collaborate with residents, building on their strengths, toward healthy and stable futures through literacy, food security, and job readiness training.
Home City was founded, as Better Homes Inc, in 1968 by the Chamber of Commerce, and is a multi-service, nonprofit housing organization that develops and owns low income multi-family and single room occupancy rental properties in Hampden and Hampshire counties. Over the years, HCDI has helped to develop thousands of housing units in the Springfield area. Recently HCDI completed a restoration of four properties in Springfield’s South End, consisting of 47 units that were heavily damaged in the 2011 tornado, earning multiple awards for excellence.
