We celebrated our 50th anniversary on Tuesday August 21st in Hennessey Park in Springfield. DJ Biz Markie (the legendary rapper and beatboxer) headlined the event and drew almost 1,000 local residents to the party!
Local residents enjoyed music from DJ Craig G followed by Biz Markie. An on-stage video screen displayed community and political leaders ranging from Governer Baker, to Senator Eric Lesser, to Congressman Neal wishing Home City a happy birthday between sets. Participants also enjoyed face-painting, temporary tattoos, balloon animals and hats, a caricature artist, a photo booth, great snacks, and much more.
Local residents reported that they were thrilled to have a party in that neighborhood. Residents informed staff they were grateful to see that people cared, and to have something so special held in the neighborhood. While Biz Markie DJ’d, the park was full of people dancing and the fence around the park was lined with residents watching and enjoying the music.
Mayor Sarno joined the festivities, proclaiming August 21st 2018 to be “Home City Development, Inc. Day.” The Mayor gave Home City a proclamation of congratulations for 50 years of service to the City of Springfield. Home City also received an official citation of congratulations from the State Senate, signed by Senator Eric Lesser.
