We’ve been busy here at Home City as we get through a snowy 2019 winter: We completed renovations to 61 family units in the Mason Square area in December 2018, and we have over 200 units upcoming in our production pipeline. Keep reading for more information and follow us onFacebook to keep up with all of our projects.

We closed on construction financing for Chestnut Crossing Apartments at the end of December. Construction has begun and is set to complete by the end of the year.  Home City will convert the building’s 104 units into 101 larger single-occupancy units, all of which will contain bathrooms and kitchenettes, and make needed energy efficiency upgrades. This will be done over four phases of construction. Thank you to our partners Allegrone ConstructionDavis Square Architects, and Locklin Construction (owner’s rep). Look for updates here

E Henry Twiggs Phase II development reached 100% completion at the end of December! Final residents were moved in in January 2019. EHTII is a 61 unit occupied rehab in the Mason Square neighborhood. Congratulations to our partners NEI General ContractingArchitecture EL, and Locklin Construction (owner’s rep) for a very complex job well done, and stay tuned for a ribbon cutting event planned for this Spring.

Updates on the Brookings School project: Architects continue to scope out the project and develop detailed plans. Meanwhile, the state of Massachusetts awarded $200,000 of historic tax credits in January and recommended the project to the National Park Service for Federal Housing Tax Credits, which we hope to receive in June.

In December, we closed on the acquisition of the land on Amethyst Brook in Pelham. Amethyst Brook is a six acre rural lot overlooking an old mill dam with beautiful views. We have been working on very initial site plans (below) and meeting with the Pelham community to come up with the best model for affordable housing in this rural setting.

Housing Management Resources (HMR) continues to do a phenomenal job managing all of our properties. They have finished relocating all of the Phase I tenants at Chestnut Crossing, and will begin with Phase II later in the Spring.

Resident Engagement literacy programs are going strong. Resident teen leaders have been engaging the youth in the neighborhood on the benefits of reading. Check out all the activity on their Facebook page
